What is Matriculation?
Matriculation is the formal process of entering a university, or of becoming eligible to enter by fulfilling certain academic requirements.
When you enrol and attend registration, all of the formal checks are complete and you're ready to begin your studies. Matriculation is a celebration of your new journey and an opportunity to formally join the Regent's community.
After your matriculation ceremony, there will be an opportunity to join our academic staff and your new student community in a toast at the drinks reception afterwards. 🎉
What happens at the matriculation ceremony?
Before the event begins, you'll be asked to take a seat in Tuke Hall, a beautiful, airy auditorium on campus.
The event is opened by our senior academics leading a procession in their formal gowns. They will take a seat on stage, alongside key senior leaders of Regent's:
Professor Geoff Smith, Vice-Chancellor & CEO
Professor Fary Cachelin, Provost & Deputy Vice-Chancellor
Samantha Grady, Associate Provost, Student Experience
You'll hear from each of these leaders at Regent's as they describe what lies ahead for you on your student journey: the experiences you will learn from on campus, the connections you will make for life and the community you will always be a part of from this moment onwards.
What happens after the ceremony?
After the closing remarks, the academics on stage will walk in procession out of Tuke Hall. Once the procession is finished, you will be invited to join Professor Geoff Smith and other academic staff for a reception and refreshments.
At this reception, you will have an opportunity to meet the senior academic leaders as well as your fellow students and you will be invited to enter your name into the register (or matricula), a beautiful hand-made, leather-bound book which will be kept in Regent's archives for years to come.
As you sign the book, we encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the hard work you've done to get to Regent's, as well as the work that still lies ahead to achieve your goals.
