Presidential Election 2026
Students Union President Election update and future review process
Following the outcome of the second Student Union President election for the 2026/27 academic year, announced on Friday 1 May 2026, the Student Union and University would like to provide an update on next steps.
Firstly, we would like to thank the candidate who stood in the election, as well as all students who participated in the election process.
Following consultation between senior representatives from the Student Union, Governance Team, and Vice Chancellor’s Executive Team, it has been agreed that further information regarding future election processes and the Student Union structure will be shared during the Autumn 2026 term. This period will allow a considered review of the current constitution and related processes to ensure they continue to effectively support the needs and interests of the student community, while remaining fair and democratic.
As students returned a 'Open Nominations' result in two consecutive elections, and with many students no longer on campus, it is important that time is taken to reflect on the current model, review the timing and structure of future elections, and ensure that any future process is robust, inclusive, and conducted during a period of strong student engagement across the University.
Student representation remains extremely important to Regent’s, and we recognise the value of ensuring students continue to have an effective voice within the University community. Appropriate student representation and continuity of engagement will therefore continue across relevant committees and institutional activities during this interim period.
Students are encouraged to continue checking their University email accounts and Student Union communication channels for future updates.
