HIDDEN LONDON [10] Are you a fan of the Harry Potter films? You cannot miss “The House of Mina Lima"

Updated: Sep 9, 2020

Mina-Lima - Creators of the Harry Potter films' graphic art and props.

When watching a movie , rarely does anyone have the time to take in all the careful contributions from art directors, stylists and prop makers. And in the world of Harry Potter this is especially true, but the elaborate sets, graphics and props in all the HP movies have a place of origin. Most parts were designed in England as the movies were mainly filmed at Leavesden Studios Hertfordshire, now known as the Warner Bros Studios.

In the case of graphic art props, two young designers Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima created the pieces for the original movies and have also worked more recently on the Fantastic Beasts series as well. Yes starting in 2001 with the original letter Harry receives inviting him to Hogwarts, their memorable works include the Marauders Map and the atmospheric “Wanted Posters” for Sirius Black and Bella Lestrange.

Now known as Mina Lima, two years ago they opened a small gallery and shop hidden away in Soho to display the wonderful creative work from these and other films. Recently moving to historic Wardour street in a restored victorian townhouse the new gallery opened on the 1st Sept. There are two floors of amazing graphic art and props, which you can see for free. There is also a shop that sells high quality limited edition prints from many of the films, and also more affordable pieces. So if anyone needs a Gryffindor or Ravenclaw Notebook for the new terms studies this is the place to go.
